Bit of history:

"By the mid-1920s, the existing City of Bristol Mental Hospital at Stapleton was suffering from serious overcrowding. Construction began in 1934 and although the hospital was not officially opened until 3 May 1939, Barrow Hospital received its first patients in May 1938 with the complex still only half-built. In 2003 the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust announced its intention to close Barrow Hospital by 2008. By 2004 only three residential wards remained open. Demolition began in 2009 and as of March 2013 6 buildings remain standing."

Still quite a lot to see here in my opinion and didn't bump into a single soul during the visit.

There was also an underground (maintenance tunnel?) underneith the hospital that we could of went in but it didn't look to nice.

On with the photos

Place looks like its seen some better days. Great shots and some tasteful graf. Thanks.

I thought this had been fully demolished now! Been wanting to take another look but thought I had lost the chance!

Even with the graff, theres still some lovely decay there.
Fantastic photos, thank you for sharing. :)

Just a note to anyone reading this or other postings - DO NOT ask for information on sites within the open forum. It is expressly against forum rules.

And those of you writing reports should NOT give such information in the open forum if you are asked.

This time the offending question and answer have only been deleted. Next time the post could end up in the pit irrespective of how good a report it is!

Sorry but the rules are in place for good reason.

Don't worry Dale, sh*t happens, clearly it wasn't a malicious infraction.

At first sight it might seem rather odd that a forum expressly for exploring dereliction appears to actively impede the spread of information but the reason it does so is because there are some peeps out there who trawl sites like this with no intention of ever inputting to the site, rather they do it just to find out where the latest abandoned buildings are. Sadly many of these people are not even explorers; many are metal thieves, vandals, graf taggers etc.

Stay safe and enjoy your 'splores.
