'North Wales has always been a lot more nationalistic than the south'. Yes, that was always my impression when we had our annual summer holidays in our caravan on the Lleyn Peninsular. All the locals were keen to speak Welsh in front of us English. And the pubs were dry on Sundays.

During WW2 , the Ministry of Food decamped from London to Colwyn Bay. The Min took over the whole town, using guest houses and hotels for the staff. My father said it was the happiest time of his life working in Rationing. He went back to Colwyn Bay in the 1980s and couldn't believe how run-down it was becoming.
