Having read about this place online & living fairly locally at the time we decided to try finding it.....the house was originally built in the 15th century as the local manor house, there is apparently an underground tunnel (now blocked up) that runs to the village...it was a private residence for a long time & then in the 20th century it became a youth hostel ehich closed in the early 1980's, it sat empty for a while before being bought by a Canadian who did some restoration work before vanishing back to Canada, or so the farmers next door told us...it's been empty ever since, it looks like squatters & kids have been in!, a lot of original features remain such as carved oak fireplaces & oak staircases....a good place to visit!.There is also an empty gatehouse with the property.
