This is the first time I've ever really explored a derelict building, I've been tempted to visit this mill for a while, I've passed it twice weekly on the train for the past three years. Woke up this morning and decided to go have a look, seen as I had nothing better to do.

I thought I might accidently step on something sharp buried underneath the snow while I was there, fortunately I didn't, the only damage I did to myself was falling on my arse while walking to the mill on the extremely icy road...

Sorry if the pictures are a bit shoddy, I'm not a photographer, and they were taken on my phone.

The main building I wanted to have a look at.

There were two of these little green huts with saws in, just to the right of the building.

Some small building with a bucket load of machinery inside.

Inside of said building.

Pipes round the back, there were a bunch of these leading to every part of the building.

There was a second building down the road, I'm not sure what it was, or who owned it, but I thought I'd check it out while I was close by.

I walked back to the first building again to see if there was anything I missed, some guy in a hard hat and fluorescent jacket came around the corner when I got there, I gave him a friendly wave to let him know I wasn't some kind of psycho and asked if it was ok that I was taking photos, he wasn't exactly angry with me, but he said that I shouldn't be taking photographs or walking around there without the land owners permisson, so I went into polite british mode, apologised and left. Good thing he only spotted me when I was about to leave!

It was really interesting exploring a building like this, definately going to do it again sometime.

EDIT: Holy crap, I just searched for BOCM Selby and it seems a bunch of you guys have already been here, sorry if this thread is considered spam. :/

nice one, you should definiely go back though! Unless you just didn't post pics of it you missed out on the best bit. Looks like the snow probably helped you out though, when jST and I were here in warmer weather he had a bit of a short fail and got stung to buggery by nettles, then we found the easy way around. -_-

would like to check this place out sometime! allways go past it on the bus when going to york and it gets worse evry time. would like to go there before it gets to its worst. if your willing to meeet up i would :)

Hello there mate, great report, and yes that is the same trolley I photographed. Its a great site isn't it? The first building you visited I believe was the maintence building for the entire site, the second set you visted is the oil production building (British Oil & Cake Manufacturer), and then of course there is the main semi live site across the railway, and across the road from that the fuel tanks and pump house, also worth a look.

Great report, and good to see it in the snow.

I love all the trolleys everywhere!!

cheers

Ian
