i’m now 70 years old. I grew up on the Windses Estate, Grindleford. My whole childhood and that of other children who lived there had a tremendous childhood, exploring the whole countryside. We used to climb Bolehill many times and play cowboys and Indians around the quarry, not realising the significance or danger of the whole site. It was the most beautiful, exciting place to play (only going home when hungry!) there but mum always told us to keep away from Deadman’s Pool.  It  was obviously something to do with the quarry workings and very dangerous!  Sadly, I moved away from Windses Estate in 1980.  I haven’t visited  Bolehill since my  childhood.  However, on visits back to the area I have visited Windses Estate, where I used to live and was so very, very sadden how it has changed and spoilt! The land that was free from fencing and a child’s paradise, now purchased and fenced off, how terribly sad and for what??  I thank my luck stars for the amazing childhood I had with friends roaming and playing in such a beautiful place. What terrific memories I have before it became such a tourist spot and overgrown with vegetation.  Jackie Rodgerson (née Roose).
