The works opened at the beginning of the 20th Century and provided silica bricks from the local yellow clay for the steel industry. The bricks were exported by sea, but tides created difficulties and the works closed at the beginning of the First World War.
I love this place and have been down there many times, the gorse is a bit nasty on the way down there but it's worth it...I have one of the bricks which was in the sea, maybe a pic of a brick hee hee....
A warning though..it's a bit spooky and unsafe so be very careful, but is open and unrestricted,
there was a rope hanging from one of the main rafters when I last visited..................................................................
Lovely photos of a very interesting site, there's also a similar site, close to here, called Porth Llanlleiana, do you know it? It's not as big, but was a busy Porcelain producer, which closed in 1920 . Da iawn chdi
