Visited with Urbex and Big N. Another glorious sunny May day. Public health warning especially for Urbex: catwalks are NOT guaranteed to be screwed securely! Mice have wrecked the display of cereals and products so no pics of those but I loved the labs. Highlight of the day was sunbathing with sushi on the top but I won't post those because it's too early in the year and the tans haven't developed properly yet (so we all looked a little overexposed :p) On with the important stuff...

Ooh, I seem to have missed this thread earlier. Absolutely cracking photos, Bobob...really fascinating site with loads of interesting things to see. Love the gantry crane and the pic below that...what is that? Good stuff! :)

Thanks for your comments :) Speed - watch your step, eh? Foxylady, it's the 'slicey-dicey' machine for mashing up all those lovely beets. I know of some better shots of it but those are under wraps, at least for the time being.

No it's not a "slicey-dicey" or anything to do with mashing up beet. It's a granulator and is used for drying damp sugar from the centrifuges so it doesn't turn into a 12,000 tonne lump in the silo.
Sorry if I'm being picky, but I work in the industry and it pains me to see things wrognly described.
There's some fascinating kit in sugar factories, if you've got any photos of stuff and you want to know what it is and what it does, then I'm happy to oblige.

Nice pics by the way! :)

Oops, quite right! Here's a picture of it when new:

I like the name 'slicey-dicey machine' though
