The latest explore of The Bearded Soup Fanatics was Broadwood Quarry. We had a fab day (Cheers to Lithium for the info). The quarry part is still in use (although not at the time we were there obviously) but to be fair, there was more interesting stuff there, such as the old flourspar processing plant and loads of dumped mining vehicles.

We took far too many pictures to put on here but i'll try and give you a good cross section.

We came across this bizarre little room that seemed to still be in use. There were newish clothes there and a towel, also a heater and shaver that were plugged in. Lord knows why?!

And finally, we came across something very special indeed, some old trams hidden away in a storage shed. 1 from Germany and 1 from Budapest -

Oh, and soup of the day was Chicken Noodle, yum.

Stay tuned for Oddity's and Dr. Black's posts!

Nice one folks, glad you enjoyed it, theres some cool stuff there. Can't believe you got to see the trams, we couldnt get into that room where they are, well done!

BTW...chicken noodle :( would have gone for the bratwurst and stilton myself.

This place seems to get better and better! I like the way someone spilt those huge metal balls and thought " nah theyr'e too heavy to pick up " and left them! The trams are great. Really not what you would expect in that place. I wonder why they are there?

What does this quarry do now? Does it process limestone now that the mines are shut?

When the quarry here closed they used the plant for processing all the spar from the surrounding mines, it was like a central giant processing plant. All the scrap vehicles and stuff came out of Grove Rake and Cambokeels, when those mines closed, Sherburn Stone Co. cleared the sites and dumped it all at Broadwood.

Now they are quarrying here again but as far as I know the rest of the site is abandoned.

Excellent site. It never ceases to amaze me how different all quarries are and how there's usually something a bit special about each one. Cool stuff. :)

When we looked at the trams, one of them had a sticker on them that said 'Lot 42', so I presume they are or have been auctioned and are being stored there till they're moved to their rightful place.

By the way, if anyone speaks German and/hungarian and can translate the wording in the trams that would be really interesting to know!

Had a look-see up here today with a couple of locals, and found these....

I read something about Frosterley Marble and wondered if this was perhaps it? There were a few half finished pieces lying about, looks like someone was having a ball. There were a few beer cans scattered about and a bird feeder hanging from the tree behind!
We found the room too with the heater on still, the overalls hung up..... looks like someone just nipped out for lunch!
and that shaver must be well charged by now.....
