Okay finishing up the area. First off i tried to locate S0008416 but as can be seen from the photo it is more than likely buried under earth, either on the pile im standing on or these ones shown. Sadly all the golfers i asked did not remember one being visable:

Just across the road there are supposed to be the remains of some trenches but unless the very faint dips here are them they have gone, number S0008415. This photo possibly shows a sliht recess and the rest are on the edge of the grass below the road:

Next onto try and locate the Allan Williams Turret S0008336, this photo shows the rough area and i had a good look in every bramble bush in the area but sadly no trace was found. Talking to locals the area has been heavily worked on with the Sandy mast and nearby quarry so more than likely its been removed:

Finaly some sucsess, unfortunatly its not possibly realy to acsess this field now and its due to be built on so how much longer this will stand for i dont know. Home Guard Shelter S0008505:

Well thats wrapped up the area between my two threads, sadly not alot survives. Next onto the Hitchin area.

you get days like that snap, where nothing seems to go right. Trench remains are notoriously hard to find I usually find them by falling into them and Allan Williams Turrets are like rocky horses sh*t to find

if you think AWTs are hard to find try looking for spigot mortar thimbles :) normally it's by stubbing your toe on the pintle when kicking debris and leaves out of the way :) bearing in mind the original emplacement was probably 5-10 feet across and often four feet deep they do a bloody good job of dissapearing after they've been backfilled.

Theres'a a type 24 in Mundesley in Norfolk that wins my prize for most obscured. I was standing right next to it and asking an elderly couple about it who swore that there was no bunker on the road and that they'd lived here for 25 years. it was so overgrown it was only by trying to penetrate the thicket to see the otherside of the hedge that I literally bumped into it.

Lucky you, id like to locate some espesialy if they are localish to me.

The nearest to you that's confirmed to exist is S0004902 at Earith. I believe about 600 were installed rather than the 200 that leftorium mentioned but as he says they all went for scrap, some probably before the war was even over.

that is the first time I've heard 600 mentioned, from different sources I've heard 300 ordered but only ever 200 installed never been sure whether the 200 referred only to those under army or home guard control rather than those for airfield close defence which may account for the discrepancy . For once I hope you're mistaken as I've an unspoken intention (unspoken as Mrs Lefty will kill me first ) to visit as many as possible :)

I think I got that number from Ironsides Line but I'm not certain it may have been the number ordered as you suggest. It won't take you too long to visit them all, there are only about 35 left and 50% of those are dubious, you'll be seeing a great deal of our fair island along the way though, not to mention Orkney.

I travel around a fair bit with work and various hobbies plus seing my family and freinds so im hoping to see more and more bunkers.

I know of one near St Albans that is easy to access and in great condition. PM me for details if you are interested.

I am very surprised this one is still there, given its location and easy access

An not even a spray job on it. That was my first one so i was very happy to find it. i got some strange looks off lorry drivers when i dodged into the tree line to get to it. The sheep seemed interested in what i was up to.
