I have tryed to persuade several people to visit the Burtonwood airbase but no one wanted to come. Finally I decided to venture over today to find they were having an open day.

Nice. :) Why are they pulling it down?

I would love to drive my car up that roof like in the Italian Job.

I think those rusty thingymajobs are transformers and associated switch gear - someone here will know better than me!

Id second that thought, they look like transformers, i love the sound they make mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I love the picture of the transformer on its side, hope it wasnt live when that happened :p

And I thought I was the only one who loves that sound. :)

The technical name for those installations is "Mechanical and Engineering Plinth" and yes they are transformers. There we usually at least 5 dotted around most WW2 era airfields. They just distributed electricity around the various parts of the airfield.

I visited the other night with Bigjobs, Littlejobs, Over, Gage, Fluxy, and Nexus.
