BVT is a merger between BAE Systems and VT Shipbuilding, formed in July 2008. BAE owned some shipyards in Glasgow - Govan and Scotstoun. VT was based in Portsmouth. They build and service naval vessels, including the new Type 45 Destroyers. Some of the buildings at the Scotstoun yard were being demolished, so I got in for a look before they were all gone.

This is what they looked like from the water, taken three weeks before:

From the land:

It's absolutely enormous - these are the doors facing the river Clyde:

Even the most intact building (shed? hangar?) is rapidly being demolished:

The QC lab still had quite a bit of (elderly) equipment left:

Lots of cool-looking junk lying about:

It's very noisy in the wind - lots of metal panels flapping about:

Some workshops still have quite a bit of equipment left:

The roof has a good view of the working shipyard:

The basement, oddly, has lots of what look like small animal cages:

It's also a fun place to play with panoramas ;-)

Lots more pictures in my Flickr set...

( I wasn't sure if this should be in industrial or military)

Thanks, yes - there were absolutely piles of those lying about...
