Caldwell's Paper Mill was built in 1914 in Inverkeithing, Fife.

The building originally housed 4 paper making machines but a 5th was added in 1928 when the company was taken over by Inveresk Paper Company.

It remained in their ownership until 2002 when it was taken over by Swedish company Klippan who put in place a plan to rescue production, but a slump in the world market put an end to that & the paper mill.

It closed its gates for the final time late in 2003 with a loss of 150 jobs, with the machinery being returned to Inveresk.

All my pics from my visit can be found here: (118 of them!!)

nice one mate like your 1st shot looks a huge site
bet there is loads hidden away!

No, that's Curtis. Strictly speaking it's Guardbridge, not Leuchars.:)

Inverkeithing is the other end of Fife, near the Forth Bridges.

so sad to see that i had a few mates who worked there as i used to live in inverkeithing
papermill was the heart of the toon and it got ripped out by the mill shutting and hardly any work up at the dockyard either the smell from the place in summer was horrific on a summers day
the games on ballast bank with the mill in the background was always one thing i remember or the scrap yard  is there much of the pub left along from the gates(capt`n jack`s)? as it looks like the frazer avenue repribates have ripped it apart

The pub's still intact, just closed. Still has the bar in place but no drink & there are boxes on the floor.

Not sure whether the upstairs flat is occupied or not. Someone else who explored Caldwell reported that the lights in the pub were on when they went

glad the pub is still there

just a shame when the mill closed inverkeithing is a nice wee toon, but after the mill shut it turned the place sour
and turned it a bit danker if ya get my meaning :( but alas the scrappy is still working i hope....or the place will be realy ******

klippan

please edit your notes as klippan never put in place a rescue plan they took control of a company on its knee's and took control of the order book and when they got what they wanted handed back the rubbish ie the machinery and then robbed the workers out of there redundancy package they work hard for and deserved.they fought a battle against coruption and bad managemant for years.all klippan were after was the order book they took what they wanted and left the workers pennyless....

ps one of the 150 still angry workers
