Cambokeels Mine was built on an abandoned medieval village, opening initially in 1847 as a lead mine. Poor yields lead to closure in 1871. The mine lay dormant until 1906 when it was re-opened and worked for fluorspar. Cambokeels closed for good in 1989 and has been abandoned ever since.
The site looks to be rapidly deteriorating, with the incline flooded for some time and acid mine drainage now evident. Metal thieves appear to have visited between 2011 and my visit in 2015 as a large boiler has disappeared.
