Hey all, ive been scoping out buildings for a while and was shown this site. i decided instead of just looking at these old places id start taking a camera too, also for my art project i need photos so win win.

i went up here today after reading and viewing the 2009 report by : rjg scotland

http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/showthread.php?t=11605&highlight=fife

it looked pretty interesting however i wasn't as lucky with getting into the building. at first i thought this building stood alone and was sucluded (by the looks of the photos) however it was just a building on the outskirts of a collection of old buildings still occupied in the surrounding area. there were cars and people close by so i decided to ask in reception about getting into the building as it would have been obvious if we just went in (also unaware of alarms etc.) when we asked the lady about getting in she wasnt sure and said she couldnt authorize it however we asked if taking pictures of the outside was alright and she said it was ok.

about 20 mins later after walking around the outside and collectiong some snaps 2 men came round who were i assume to be security figures. who asked us what we were doing and informed us the police were on their way. as we had done nothing wrong running seemed like a stupid idea. we stayed and then got questioned by a police officer who arrived about 2 mins later. they assumed we were trying to break in but hadnt been informed by the lady we spoke to we were going around the outside taking pics. after having to give details and having my bag searched (only having drawing equipment inside) i apologised and left.

to be fair, the guys were really nice and i could see why they were worried, i was told the building had deteriorated severly since it was shut and alot of people had been breaking in doing damage, stealing pipes etc. when we asked about being allowed into the halls for photographs they said we couldnt because the floor was now unstable and asbestos levels were not good.

basically people i wouldn't advise trying to get into the derelict ward, i got photos from the outside looking in and some of the buildings outside parts. i hope you enjoy but i would say this particular pic site is dead for getting any new photos =(

nice mate you should have pointed out that you had asked and had gotten permission from the lady mate :)

I'm appalled that the police searched you, even though it was obvious that you were just taking pics. They actually don't have the right to do unless you're arrested.

Anyway, well done for having a go at the building and I hope that it doesn't put you off. Cheers. :)

Yes they do... they can do a stop and search if they have reasonable suspicion... aka for pretty much any reason they want. In fact this police power was one of the main reasons cited by the yoofs as the cause of their recent looting... "to take the power back". How very Brixton.

Well, you're right about the reasonable suspicion, and in this case I guess they had. But, they can't just make something up. They do, I know, but it wouldn't stand up in a proper court of law and it also contravenes the British Constitution between the crown and the people (and yes, we do have one, despite the lies by the feral elite in parliament).

Sorry, rant over...

Power to the people! ;)

I hate the taken names bit!! That's probably worse then the searching (unless you have something to hide!) Its like, you're outside the building - why do they need your name? I mean I spose I can sorta see why but surely just a "ok, leave the area" would do?

Police state a'coming

Thanks for the pictures! Really interesting! Sorry about the police though, always such a shame!

I may stand corrected on this one but from past memory, unless you are arrested, you can also refuse to provide details. Police don't like it but unless they detain you for a criminal offence, you can just walk away.

I'm not for one second suggesting that anybody refuses a search request or a request for details, what's the point? Unless you have a warrant for your arrest of course. It's so much easier to help the police than to be obstructive these days!

The two times I've been stopped and searched in the past 2 years (nothing to do with UE) I've refused to give my details despite threats of arrest. The reason they get pissy with you if you refuse is that they have to do a lot more paperwork back at the station. If you are not being charged with anything you are totally within your rights to do so though, whatever threats they may make about obstructing police blah blah blah.

I don't agree that it's much easier to help than be obstructive, easier for who?. If I have done nothing wrong, why do they need my details, and why would I want to be put on record? I do not subscribe to the if you have nothing to hide you should play along argument, there lies the path to a police state which is exactly the way things are heading. The stop and search laws are insidious, damaging and ultimately pointless. They are a method of social control, not part of effective policing and law enforcement.

Maybe you should start a petition to change the stop and search laws then.

Obviously the reasons that you were stopped for non UE is nothing to do with us here but maybe you just matched the description of somebody?

Either way, picture this:

Your trespassing on property / land that have been burned up, broken into, smashed up and items, metal, slate stolen from. Then, you're caught on said land inside a building! Land owners or security phone the police - not knowing if you are dangerous or not and police arrive.

Now the fun bit. Which is easier -

An hour of talking to the officers upon why you are not giving your personal details unless they arrest you, at which point they could probably just do you for section 4 public order as they may feel distressed by you

OR

Just give them your details and within 5 mins, your out the door and on your way!

True in a way, but the less we stand up to the police state then the more power they have over us. Sorry to drag politics into this, but most police...and especially the new vigilantes...don't actually know the law and think they can do what they like. Know your rights and stick to them, otherwise we lose them completely!

Your right in what you say and trust me, I've had a fair few dealings with the police and lets just say, were not giving each other Christmas cards this year!

I was being serious about making a petition to change the law on stop and search though as yes it's a pain in the butt! Details - that's another thing I think. New officers are a pain in the butt big time but that is only because they are expected to hit targets (or they get a slapped wrist! haha)

Anyway, I forgot to say it before, but back to the pics - great pics and an interesting place! Thanks!
