this room in engineering was where the clock synchronizing equipment was, it kept all the clocks in the hospital at the same time. as you can see the power went off at 10 to 2

derelict city ! every where you looked you could see derelict buildings. i'v never seen anything quiet like it before. it had a great atmosphere up there , you got a real sense of the huge size of the place up here.

DSC01843.jpg

showing the burned out remains of the great hall. i believe it burnt down sometime in 2001.
has anyone any photo's of the hall inside before it burnt down?

great pictures mate
nice to see some really old stuff from there.
didnt they have security in those days?

Superb! Hats off to you, these are really nice especially as most photos i have seen of the hill from that era are a lot lower quality - i know mine were!

The first shot is really very good because it is pre-metal fence and it also shows Vanbrugh and Vincent wards before the fire that wiped out the roof. Distinct lack of broken windows, too!

cheers mr. bones.
just re photographed all this lot off gloss prints with my digital camera the smorning !
it works quiet well considering . infact most of the photos i'v put up on this site so far have been scanned in this way as most of my pics are on prints.
didnt know that old shot in 1998 was of a ward that burnt down, that was my first siting of cane hill round the edge with fellow explorer simon:)

does anyone have a shot in the great hall before it got destroyed with fire?

Great work! I love the retro feel to those pics. Would be a lot better if I didn't have to tilt my head to see some of them though.:)

That small balcony is strange, I think Simon commented about it on is site.

I'm sure I've seen that portrait of a woman somewhere else.

I've not seen any pictures of the "aladdins cave" there's some police dog signs in there.

There don't to be any online - I've seen one once and I think another (by Lilimouse) has been located in archives but isn't available to copy. It's a pity, as shots of recreation halls that survive the life of the hospital aren't usually that difficult to locate.

Nice Pics OM, its so sad how bad the place has gotten in such a short amount of time:( One observation though: Is it just me or is there something very odd going on in the 3rd pic from the bottom?

not quiet sure what you mean king al,but it could be my reflection in the shot as it was retaken off a gloss print with a digital camera. if its something else thats goin on, please tell me:confused:

The chimney is at a rather odd angle...

Between 1991 and 2001 security were based in the Administration Block. Some of the interior corridors were also boarded up (as the hospital closed) so getting around inside during those early days was difficult.

I'd forgotten Odeon Master had a camera with him when we first walked the perimeter. :) I believe it was 1999 or 2000 however. But it certainly looked different back in those halycon days.

All the best,
Simon

Nice to see some pics from CH when it was in better nick :)

Lb:jimlad:

P.s. -got a bit of a sore neck looking at some of ya pics though! :p ;)

Very nice mate, love seeing old pictures of Cane Hill. Ive only visited twice since demo started, so its good to see what it used to be like.:)

95% of the reports I've seen from here are 2005 onwards, so it's great to see some older stuff from here.

Any idea if there are any photos floating about the internet of the main hall before the fire?
