After visiting Chaddesden Culvert, we were trying to decide where to go next. I wanted to go somewhere else I'd never been before so we headed out to Clipstone Colliery.
I sort of knew what to expect due to seeing various reports on this site, but nothing could prepare me for seeing how tall the headstocks were in real life! It made me giddy just looking up at them
Anyways, on with the photo's...
The first view I got of Clipstone Colliery was this one.
Inside the colliery, you could still see the tracks that were for narrow-gauge trains to take the coal and soil out to be sorted.
I also saw the perfect opportunity to get a photo of all of us on the stairs...
Inside another building, I came across this strange contraption, that I'm told was the winding wheel for the headstocks.
Random photo's that didn't seem to fit anywhere...
...saving the best photo I got of Clipstone Colliery Headstocks for last...
Then we moved onto Annesley Colliery and Headstocks.
My first experience of climbing Headstocks and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, I was also pleasantly suprised at the view even though it was dark!
After navigating our way off the Headstock, we explored the other parts.
Random timer thing.
Old signage.
Small hole into the mine itself, which would be very far down and probably also very flooded.
After that, we set off back to Derby in hope to take photo's of bright fairground lights etc but they'd already closed, so we went our own ways.
