The shafts of Clipstone Colliery were first sunk in 1922. In the 1950s the colliery was rebuilt and the shafts were deepened to access other seams. After being closed by British Coal in 1993, the colliery was reopened by RJB Mining in 1994. The 1950s rebuilding of the headgear and winder house were listed in 2000 as an "early example of the 'Koepe' system". The colliery was finally closed in 2003. Many local idiots want the place completely destroyed, despite the fact that the town would not exist if the colliery wasn't there!

Visited with Boothy, was an excellent place to explore :)

Very nice, I love the last shot. I am not too far from here so may have to go and have a look, do you know what it's future holds?

Thanks. Im not sure on the current state of affairs, but im sure someone on here will know.

Excellent stuff Goldie, one of my favourite places - Nottinghamshire's surviving disused collieries are definitely worth the journey in my opinion.

I'm not too sure if and when the headstock's get demolished - I assume it will be lengthy process to legally demolish them? The main problem is that vandals are getting inside, so it could end up like many abandoned listed buildings in the long run :(

The area could benefit from the tourist potential these headstock's give, but its an issue of feasibility and cost I guess.
