Hi everyone.
First post on the forum and hopefully its not one you'll have seen very often before.
Cumberland St Train Station, situated in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, was open to passengers until 1966 and was part of the line servicing St Enoch Station. The track was wider than what is present today with parts of the track, mainly the bridges removed leaving what you can see today. The line is still used today however is mainly for freight trains I believe as it is not electrified.
The main entrance for the station (I used to drive past this almost daily and never realised what it was even though its blatantly obvious!):
The size of the station is quite deceptive from the outside. Here is one of the main arches right at the entrance of the station (many of these are re-used further down the line for business use):
After entering the station you had to walk upstairs to get to the main platforms. This is the main corridor which had the final sets of stairs to each platform:
Leading up to the live line which runs through the former station is an old abandoned line which is not completely overgrown. This had a station which was about 100 yards from Cumberland St (next to the Brazen Head), with this being all that remains of it:
In comparison, this is what is left of the platforms of Cumberland St Train Station, with each stairway sealed off to protect what runs above:

I love the old train stations and tunnels which Glasgow has to offer. I've visited quite a few of the more "regular" places which most people have done. Hoping to put together a much larger thread on a few of these places soon.
