Continued:

Ok so a few days after my first adventure I heard about the ghost city of Famagusta, deserted since the Turkish invasion of '74

It was extremely difficult to get pictures of this place due to the (again) machine gun toting guards who would actively burst down from their little wooden huts and take your camera gear from you, no questions asked.

I won't try to describe stuff because there's not much to say, except it was a sight to behold, an entire city slowly rotting away with construction cranes swaying in the wind. Very wierd. Surely some enterprising soul can arrange for (us) to visit the insides of what appears to be an urbex enthusiasts wildest dream! I heard there's a garage full of Mk1 Ford Cortinas gathering dust in there somewhere...

On with the pics:

The 'trick' to taking photos is pretending to take photos of each other down on the beach, which I exploited as best I could. I can only whinge about the denial of access to this amazing place.

There I am, exploiting the er, loophole.

I suppose these must have been hotels at some point, one of them had lost some of it's lift structure during a storm.

Check out part three for yet more fun and games in cyprus!

My sister and her other half told me you can go into Varosha if you sign away your life (a disclaimer) or something like that.
The garage you mention is full of old Toyotas, unless there's another one

OoOOOOOO !! Dude I wish I'd known that !!

I was told by all and sundry that the only way in there was if you joined the Turkish military !

The guide I was with was excellent but he didn't say anything about that !! Thanks for clearing that one up !

If I thought you could get in there I'd certainly go back for another look, flights over there arn't too bad.

Fantastic. I love Varosha.

I think I read somewhere that the damage to that hotel was caused during the invasion, rather than storms.

There are damaged hotels but I'm at the east end of the city in these photos and I'm unsure if the bit I took a photo of had been attacked or not. Possibly it had all been shot at one way or another.

I dont know much about this place, but can I ask,how come you can walk along the beach but not to look at the buildings to take pics?Just seems strange to me.

Well the beach is part of an area that's still in use and the fence runs along the outside edge. You could only walk so far down the beach before you came to another fence and guard post.

Quite frankly it seems a massive waste but Cyprus itself is still developing, couple that with the turkish problem and I can quite understand why they havn't persued it further.
