Well here we go again.
So this was Saturday of my 10 day holiday to the sun drenched island of Cyprus, once again the wife is by the pool and I`m off to more interesting places.
This time it was a trip up in the the Troodos mountains to visit an abandoned quarry, the quarry is called Amiantos, it was one if not the largest open cast quarry`s on the Island, the quarry opened in 1904 and closed down as late as 1988, it was a massive exporter of its product all around the world, some say (s*** I sound like Clarkson) it was the best you could get and at it`s hight it was producing between 20,000 and 40,000 tons per year.
There are a few building left, Storage and process and all kind of off limits but the area is undergoing a clean up.
Oh I never said what they mined there and why the clean up.
Yep kiddy-winks it`s a BLUE ASBESTOS mine.
Pictures I hear you say......
This is part of the quarry (a small part)
This is what I had come to see, the main process building, above this is the storage building for the unprocessed rock.
This is the storage shed, they are also rail connected and have underfloor material movement equipment.
This equipment takes the rock from the storage shed to the top of the process building.
I walked all around the buildings and as you can see they are all sealed tight as a drum, then hello cheeky whats that, ummm its a Newage size hole, bish bosh in we go......
The process building is 4 floors plus a lab and a small office.
Time to move up another floor (Floor is a loose term)
Next up is the lab and the office, the office desk still has paperwork on the desk and the normal office
crap in the desk draws.
The last shot is in what i think would be the finished product shed.
Well there you go, if you made it down this far well done on not giving up.
As per normal if you want more and who in there right mind would`t pop over to my FlickR page at

Cheers Newage
