A friend of a friend told us about this building, so we had to go investigate.. I do not know much about the building or its history, it was possibly an old nursing home... maybe time will tell.

We didn't stay as long as we wanted as there was some youths that pulled up in a car, started screching there brakes, and reving engines and running around the doorway... luckily they didn't stay too long and just left... next time we will go a little later then 9pm :)

has a very military feel to it was it not something to do with raf Middleton st George

Sorry but you can't have tried very hard. Is the fact that it is in the grounds of RAF Middleton-St-George not a bit of a giveaway? What kind of nursing home would be next to Teesside Airport?!

FYI it was the old RAF Hospital.

Originally it was part of the bomber command station which was opened in 1941 and in 1943 was home to the No.6 group, Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war the station was used for training purposes until 1964. The station was then re-opened in 1966 as Teesside Airport and in 2004 renamed to Durham Tees Valley Airport.

There's plenty more info out there.. :) Google is your best friend.

good info there Krypton... but as for 'what kind of nursing home would be next to the airport' well the main reason I thought it may be a nursing hom is the fact that there are many more nursing homes around this building... the big air raid shelter was the confusing part of this building, a place we where not expecting to see.

Hi Spirit Butterfly - Is one of the above pictures of the air raid shelter?

Later than 9pm? Are you mad. It's too dark in these photos. Go at 2pm when neck curtains is
At work or watching Countdown. Ignore youths. This is the sort of place where you just walk in! Easy peazy explore

Still, fair effort, well done for getting out there

Go back in the day, lose the flash, and you may be able to polish a turd

Agree with these. Unless you've got a new camera and are looking to work on your night time photography, there's no point to going in the dark.

The report itself is a little uninspiring but a thorough quality background history can often improve its impact and save you from the pit.

The time I spend actually exploring and photographing most sites represents about 20% of a report, the other 80% is spent researching the history.

Don't be deterred, keep at it. :)
