Just on the hillside next to Llanberris in Snowdonia is a hill scarred by decades of mining. The quarries are now disused but the mountain is a hive of activity, housing a hydroelectric powerplant deep underground. An interesting short walk here, plenty more structures to visit but after climbing Snowdon I wasnt climbing to the top of another Bl**dy mountain!!
Lots of old quarry relics here, tracks still visible for bringing the slate down and plenty of small buildings.

This is my first report on here so go easy on me!

Not too sure mate, still in the process of researching it but I seem to remember them being military

Fantastic explore, DN. I've seen pics from this area before, but don't recall seeing these particular bits...really nice photos. Love the winch details and the slate and stone barracks. :)

The barracks were for the slate workers ...recall reading somewhere.....also that they were only abandoned in I think it was the 60s when they were declared to be un-sanitary for human habitation........:)

Yes, the term barracks in this case relates to accommodation for the slate workers. Absolutely typical buildings for the time.

Great first posting and some nice photos. The inclines always amaze me in the amount of stuff still left lying around.

Been camping there in the huts a few times with my mate and its an amazing place. Because of the steep slopes not many people go there and its so quiet. It feels like time has stood still there and there's so much old machinery and buildings to explore. A truly magical place.
