Ditchingham Maltings Suffolk October 2011

The Ditchingham maltings is situated in the picturesque valley of the river Waveney on the Norfolk Suffolk border. The site itself is split by the river and is located next to an ancient Roman ford. Orginally the South Side was a Silk Mill and is a listed building dating from the 1800s, derelict since a major fire in 1999.
A submitted plan to demolish the buildings and build a housing estate on the site was approved in 2001.Demolished started a few years ago but abruptly stopped,no doubt due to the recession.
Latest news is-Developers PJ Livesey Country Homes (Eastern) Ltd, have now exchanged contracts to purchase the site and intends to submit a planning application for housing to the Broads Authority in November.
The company have arranged to hold a second public consultation with an exhibition of draft proposals in the coming months.

This site proved to be a pleasant surprise,i was expecting just empty shells but there was quite a lot of machinery and other points of interest.

The higher floors were rotten so careful treading was needed.

Great pics Kevsy, it's a great explore this, but the place is a death trap. Even the foundations are fooked as when they demolished the other half, afterwards the concrete base was hammered like mad underneath the silos, so the whole building is just about hanging by it's support columns. Good explore all the same. The top floor is an absolute no go!!

Thanks a lot,the top floors are rotten my foot went through a few times.The pic looking out from the top i had to hang over a big hole,hoping the floor wouldnt give way..But it was an interesting site none the less.

Ha Ha no i never it looks ready to drop anytime that.Notice aswel a lot of the ladders were missing the lower section so you couldnt climb up.
