Hey guys
Do any of your pay for copyright of your photos? or is it not worth the payout?
Thanks in advance.

Most photographers on this website put a stamp on their photographs. That, to me, is copyright.

Although it means nothing, most people think the same as you: Putting even a tiny watermark on a photo deters a lot of agencies from stealing it!

Local papers are the worst. If there's been a fire at a mill, or a rave at a derelict industrial estate they generally do a Google image search and use whatever photos pop up instead of sending a photographer.

Two companies stole one of my non-urbex photos off the web, even though my name was on the bottom. I successfully claimed money from one of them, and negotiated positively with the other. Having your name on there just means it's harder to take the photos and probably deters some people.

If you have a website make sure you disable right-clicking and hotlinking, as that also helps.

if you stamp your name on the photo, has anyone ever got in any trouble over taking pics inside a private building. just wondering because i was wondering if I should stamp any future photos with my personal name?

No, they haven't. Not to my knowledge anyway.

Never heard of it happening.

It is a bit of a grey one tho if you're using the photos for commercial profit - I know a couple of amazing photographers who earn a very good living from selling their photos taken whilst trespassing.

With a top solicitor behind them, I'm guessing a landowner could try and recoup some of those costs as a potential "loss of earnings"? I know its far fetched but I've seen stranger cases bought against urbexers!

None of them have been successful though, you can only claim loss of earnings against existing business, you can't claim against someone else having a good idea that you hadn't already traded on.

Disabling right clicking won't stop anyone if they're that determined, just view source on the page and access the image direct from the code
