If the gates to this lodge look a bit OTT its because this is a "gatehouse lodge" for a a stately home. This lodge appears to of been used as a care home of some sort, as lifts have been installed & one half is almost a self contained apartment.
The outside looks surprisingly modern given the 1892 date plaque.
The 6 bedroom property was up for sale for 600k a while back inc 4.6 acre of land but now is off the market & seems to of been left to its own decay.

This was a relaxed solo explore & it was pretty bare inside however there were a few niice treats including a 1941 telegram & some lovely old suitcases.

The rope handle on the stairs is lethal! There's a reason it's not often seen..

That's a lot of house for the money. Sure it needs updating but it appears solid. Has some nice features as you say - I like the idea of a nosey window for watching people.
The gatehouse finds are genuinely something I'd thought would always be occupied. You just know the first one I try will be occupied by an old general with rosy cheeks, a hip flask and a shot gun.

Yes its a strange one to be left as it is in good condition with no vandalism, even all the metal is still there.
I looked up HMS torch from the telegram today, sure enough its listed as being from Holyhead, next step is to find the person named ;-)

Follow the Wing Commander's truck in its travels - even more fascinating!

The HMS Torch of 1941 was securely 'anchored' on dry land, a headquarters building! Torch the ship dates from 1894 and was an 'Alert' class sloop that was gifted to the New Zealand Navy in 1917. Decommissioned in the very early '20's, she was converted to a merchant vessel and was lost during a voyage.
