I got the bug now....

These Mills have been closed down for about as long as I can remember, and I'm no youngster!

I got about as close as I dared, those walls look like they'd go over if you so much as leaned on them. A major fire weakened the place some time ago... http://www.expressandstar.com/2008/08/18/big-blaze-at-old-flour-mill/

I do beleive that these Mills are protected, and a refurb is planned. No doubt it will be more fancy canalside apartments. :(

I will try to persuade the onsite Foreman to let me get a few pics of the inside, so watch this space...

Dude, this place WAS going to be restored, but the chances of that since the fire are bugger all. The old listed section has now collapsed internally and there is **** all worth saving in there now. Went there a few times and loved every minute inside. You should have seen it before the fire.............

As it looks now......

At first glance it does look beyond saving, but I think the they are attempting to hang on to the front of the building. They have their job cut out though, for sure.
I can just barely remember it as a working Mill, and the cobbled street which is starting to re-appear from the tarmac.
Would be nice if at least some of it could be salvaged...

Ye gods, thats a memory jerker! Never did understand why they would build a flour mill in Wolverhampton. Many thanks for the photos.

Thanks too for the update Virusman26, sad though it is :(

Too right matey... This country has no idea about hanging onto it's heritage. I'm 53, and the things I've seen disappear from view is enough to make ya weep.

Never mind, maybe in 100 years, they'll get Tony Wankpot Robinson and the rest of the Time Team tosspots to make a plywood model of the steam mill...

No reason at all, just to a child on his weekly visit to the town in the 1960's it just looked a bit incongruous among the 'heavy' industry of the area.

Just hope the building is not too damaged to be saved in some way.

Thanks again for the photos :)
