Glennglassaugh beach defences, Banffshire, September 2008

it seemed only polite to visit the beach below, where we found tank-traps, a pillbox, and a small emplacement :

Traces of steel shutters still extant :

All the tank-traps had stones set in the tops

Thats pretty cool finding the door still intact. Those stones on the tank traps are weird! Nice find.

Beach Defences.

Those pebbles stuck in the tank trap blocks remind me of the anti-pedestrian carriageway dividers in Wolverhampton, anti loafing/sitting for soldiers?

I think there's a coastal battery at Sandend a little further along the coast... Never been so I don't know what kind of condition it's in.

That first photo is very reminiscent of Normandy....the steep gorse covered dune behind the emplacement and the general layout/design of it ....could almost be Omaha beach...great stuff cheers..........

I'm still at home, haven't been away yet but the wifes Grandmother died and her Funeral was last week. I'm not sure what's happening at work at the moment, there's a few people being made redundant and all non-essential travel has been cancelled....

Did you and Bryag go to Leuchars? I didn't bother calling you guys as I thought I'd better spend some time with the wife...

With regards to Leuchars, someone decided he had to buy ANOTHER car (what is that now Zimbob, FOUR? How many arses have you got, Man!)
So could not make it. I ended up going down for the day with my eldest son, and it was *****! I actually overheard a guy in the carpark moaning that he had been coming for 40 years (now that's some load) and this was the worst one ever. Still, they can't control the weather

Low cloud meant that very few of the displays went ahead. I saw and photographed the Vulcan, but never saw it fly. There was a cool display by an F-16, the Tornado display was pretty good too- just hearing a jet break the sound barrier 100 feet from the ground was impressive The Apache helicopter did a little display and the Westland Navy lynx did also. The Typhoon (Eurofighter) showed some incredible aerobatics, including some manouvers which can only be described as aerial handbrake turns. It is a serious piece of kit.

If I am to go next year, I think I will VIP it, as it is a long day to stand and walk about. Also the VIP's get to clamber about the static displays

Donna and her family had about a month to prepare so she's been pretty good all in all. Still not nice though.

I don't feel so bad now about Leuchars either, especially after reading the Vulcan couldn't fly, mind you it's bad news that they think it won't fly again due to lack of cash.
