Goodbye Niche Nightclub, Sidney Street, Sheffield.

Work has begun on demolishing the home of Bassline music- Niche nightclub that opened in 1992 on Sidney Street, Sheffield. The back street club was started up by Steve Baxendale and his late brother the club was noted for its heavy bassline music it gained popularity in the 1990s early 2000s. Unfortunately the club also grew popular with the underworld drug gangs and the club was closed down by the Police in November 2005. The site together with the rest of Sidney Street will be levelled to make way for apartment blocks.

Work begun on ripping out the inside at present. Iv read that both sides of Sidney Street are coming down certainly a big project also Matilda Tavern that's been shut for years has scaffolding around it.

Matilda Tavern been closed since at least 2005 its very old pub. A while back the front doors were widen open the inside just a shell and the back part were the toilets were is missing . The building upstairs is fire damaged too was to be turned into flats but the money ran out.

They will need respirators in their pigeons have made Niche their home over the years. Can't see it taking long to flatten the building it's in a very poor state.

In fairness Niche was stripped out after it closed the owner opened it up to anyone who wanted a mento leaving only things that were impractical to move. IV found out today that Matilda Tavern is to reopen as a real ale house I'm pleased about the building been reused.
