Harperbury - ah, good old Harperbury. You may know Harperbury was my first real explore, and I've visited here many many times and thought I'd seen everything. Still really gutted the padded cells were removed before I got the chance to see them though.
Anyway, I heard recently of suitcases being seen in the loft space! And with a recent link on here showing a similar event in a US Asylum I just had to go and see for myself... So the suitcase hunt began...
A bit of history first.

Right, now where's those suitcases...
It may be getting very trashed here, but there are still some very nice shots to be had...
Oh dear, the roof isn't doing so well in many of the buildings. At least it's exposing the loft space nicely.
However, that much water isnt going to be kind to anything left up in the lofts
Marcus stayed here...
Hmmm, whats that blue thing in the rafters above Marcus's room. Could this be his belongings?
A gentle nudge with a big stick brought the case down, but sadly it's got nothing inside.
In fact it was completely holllow The top and bottom had completely rotted away.
The catches were both rusted in the open position...
Nice to see the two baths are still doing well...
And this mirror remains unbroken...
And curtains still hanging nicely...
There were stairs here once...
My first ever explore at Harperbury was solo, and with a simple point-and-click camera, so this was a very 'back to my roots' visit as I did it exactly the same. Except the first visit was very foggy, and this one was sunny with an awesome sunrise to greet me
Hope you enjoyed the revisit as much as I did

The first of the new buildings opened in February 1931 and, by December, 342 male patients were in residence. The administration centre, placed on a north-south axis, contained offices, clinic rooms and a dispensary. Behind it were the kitchens, storerooms, workshops and laundry.
By 1964 overcrowding in the wards had become a severe problem. The accommodation intended for 1354 patients contained some 1587, and it was said that a cyclist could easily ride over the rows of closely packed beds. It was reported on one occasion that a nurse had to crawl across the beds to reach a patient at the far end who was having an epileptic fit.
Harperbury Hospital finally closed in 2001, the last of the large institutions in the area.
