Harperbury June 09 - Going, going, (almost) gone

Harperbury was opened in 1928, converted from a few aircraft hangers, to care for both adult and children with learning difficulties and sever epileptics. After the formation of the NHS Trust the hospital amalgamated with and moved to Leavensden hospital leading to the closure of the site. Not much more than a waterlogged ruin now.

If your going to go to pay your last respects I think best go sooner rather than later as demo is well underway.

Yea its strange for sure. Hard to take pictures of now seeing as so many "classic" shots have gone up. Visited with Mc Nebula after a couple of epic fails on other sites but glad to go for the last time. I should think it will all be gone in less than six months.

Looks well trashed now, do you know what they are goint to build in its place, and is the front part of Hospital still in use?

Thanks for these photos and the up-date Els. Any pics of the demo works? Would be good (but of course rather sad) to see what's gone / left.

I only took about 10 pics in total (my third visit) and unfortunately none where of the demo works. It looks like the front part of the hospital is still in use but I did notice more buildings seem to have been vacated since I was last there.

It looks like two of the buildings on the Common have been flattened and one of the bigger buildings on the "main" hospital site. There was a lot of heavy machinery on site. The activity centre and children's padded play area are still there. Couldn't find any of the padded cells so maybe they have gone.
