Hartwood is a strange wee explore, set miles back into the countryside and quite a spread out site it is an eclectic mix of old and new, or at least would have been when it was open.

The site is split into two main parts, with the nurses and staff accommodation being nearly a mile down the driveway from the main hospital. The main hospital comprises of what appears to have once been a castle or stately home with a few ancillary buildings surrounding it for the boiler room etc. Sadly the wards are no longer standing here, the corridors having been amputated partway along their length when the site was secured and now only the shell of the old sandstone nucleus stands within the compound, though the ghostly remains of corridors can be seen stretching into the outlying fields.

One of a very few sites to have not one but two towers this site offers excellent views onto the surrounding areas from their peaks. There is still a reasonable amount of interesting artefacts to examine in the surrounding buildings such as the boiler room, the stores and the toe tags laying in the mortuary with patient details on them.

The majority of the site has been victim to arson attack at one point or another, and as such there is little left in the way of roof and ceiling. When the roof goes, the floors are soon to follow and for the most part this site is a shell only with little or no internal structure to speak of. There is still plenty to explore in the ancillary buildings, including the morgue with its unusual pewter slab, and the towers themselves are still accessible though caution is advised as there are numerous holes in the floors on various levels once you step off the main stone staircase.

In the last picture there you can see the result of the corridor amputation in the bottom left of the image.

oooooooooooooh i like this. It looks great. and love seeing both the normal pics especially from the outside and the contrasting hdr ones. i don't normally like HDR but it makes the outside pics look almost scary movie type.

Love the mortuary table, and the clock shot.

Cheers,

:) Sal

Shepy, my photos pale in comparison to yours so i'll just leave them out:lol:

I dont ever think it was a stately home, built purely as a hospital im sure.

good work on getting back there in the day!

from when we visited there in the dark @ silly O clock in the morn, the corridoors or whats left of them stretching WHAY out into the fields is what made it for me, just the shear length of them, i mean 3-400m each!
