Found this place by accident whilst photographing a pillbox on the beach there. I cannot find a lot of information about these lime kilns other than they were built and in use some time between the late 1800's and the early 1900's and produced lime for agricultural and building purposes. The area is more famous for it's coal mining but Lime played a big part in shaping the countryside as the cliffs are limestone and the demand for lime at that time was huge. What I did find out was that a lot of the lime from these kilns was transported a few miles up the road to Dawdon where it was used in a chemical works (long since gone)
