High Marnham Power Station opened in 1959 and closed in 2003 after nearly 45 years in operation.
The stations chimneys were demolished in 2004
( i was lucky enough to tag along to work with my dad and watch !)
Sadly its 150ft high boiler house followed in 2006 leaving only the Water Pumping house, the pipeline bridge and the 5 cooling towers standing today.
Been meaning to do this for ages having walked past many times with unwilling parties and had to be literally dragged away whilst clawing at the fence...
Unfortunately this meant it had to be a solo trip..:(

From the river..

Some great shots there.
Love the last pic. It looks like your lifting it up

Its an interesting angle for sure. It shows good imagination and you are thinking outside the box.

Good place to visit, you had much better weather than when I went last. :)

Excellent pics Laura, it's a great place isn't it? We took Fairygirl with us last year sometime, and were shouting stuff whilst inside the towers, listening to the echo. Did you do that whilst you were there?

I wanted to walk across the viaduct, but we were pressed for time.

Cheers,

:) Sal

I bet Fairygirl loved it, yes i did yodel into the towers.. but only after kicking a rock by accident and crapping myself at the echo...

Wow looks like a great place to visit, nice work with the photos there Laura.

Im gutted there isnt anything big and industrial here on this island, even more south than Mr Bonecollector :(

Aye we're quite lucky around here - Thorpe Marsh, High Marnham and Willington are all within easy-ish reach of each other. Nice pictures Laura - I was similarly blessed with sunshine when I visited Willington this time last year.
