Evening all;
Now this is something TOTALLY different for me. On our usual autumn mission to the slate quarries and mines of Snowdonia fellow DP member Druid decided to hijack our rather soggy escapade and educate Mrs F and I on how graded grains made finer flour. So instead of a trek up a 1 in 2 gravity incline for a mile and a half we found ourselves in a car park in the Flintshire town of Hawarden - our mission, to find what remains of our long gone milling tradition, whats left of Hawarden Mill (and there isn't too much)!! Never mind at least whats left is well worth exposing a few million pixels at !! This isn't new on here as its been done a couple of times but if you're in the area its a great mooch .......
Theres a fair few cogs, gear wheels and millstones scattered about from the 1767 built structure.

..... as well as a few other bits n bobs.
This is a 'window' in a chimney (probably for an engine house) that was more than likely connected to the mill.

Here is Broughton Brook flowing down towards the mill from the mill pond overflow sluice gate.

The Water Wheel was located in a wheel house built onto the side of the now ruinous mill but this miraculously still survives.

Parts of the original overflow sluice gate survives as well although nowadays the Mill Pond is completely silted up and the Brook flows through.

Well thats about it but our next explore turned out to be much more exciting, a real museum piece !! If youre good I might tell you all about it later !!
