Building started 1869, the asylum opened in April 1873, closing under a cloud in 1995.

To this day the asylum lies rotting in development hell.

The history is very well known, here is my selection of pics I've taken over a few visits in 2012

Welcome to the Asylum.....

and in we go

Thank you, this is my first post, so any problems give me a shout please.

Cheers

I know we're not supposed to ask about access...just wondered how you accessed the sky? :p
Fantastic shots all round, the aerial ones just add to it! Great stuff! :)

Great start to your DP career mate, most excellent shots.

It reminds me, i do need to get back to Whit this year before it falls over!

I did think of some oh so funny things to reply with, but the truth is with these aerials I was just passing and the shots have been taken over two separate flights to the Lakes.

I also have a couple of Steely Mag just before the demo and some of the ghost ship in Wales.

PS I bum lifts - I don't own a plane, I'm just a monkey with a camera.

Haha, i might try putting my thumb out at the airport!
Great shots, nice to see a different point of view. :)

The aerials are certainly a bonus for this report, nice one mate. The last time we saw anything like it was when someone shot a video of Harperbury using a model plane. Having good internal pics too makes this a very good all round report for me and I'm not a massive Asylum fan so well done.

Very nice indeed... 3 axis microlight or light aircraft? I used to fly a mic not far from Whitty but at the time I knew nothing about the place so I never flew over it. I'm quite jealous now! ;)

its a CTSW, we did the Round Britain Rally last year and did totally round Britain and won massively on points, but thats another story.
