As for the history on this place, I have not found any. I have been reliably informed that it is a WW2 air raid shelter and that where it is bricked up was a tunnel into the town center.......this is a very feasible story, but we all know when researching, you have to make your own interpretation, and I do think that the tunnel did go further, but I think it more than likely went into what was a mill very close by (which was turned into a pub/night club).

Hmm! Very strange this, I too have heard that a tunnel existed from in the town that was used in wwII to take injured soldiers from the railway station to the then infirmary (was workhouse previously) but can find absolutely nothing to verify it. This piece of tunnel is in the right area. I know exactly where the last two pics are.
