Kindergartens and schools are all over the place in Pripyat, 11 schools I think and god knows how many Kindergartens.
I have to admit that by this point I had started to become immune to the sadness of it all.

And there you are taking your photos in this overgrown corner of eastern Europe, used to it all, seen it all and rather enjoying yourself.....
Then you turn a corner
Now I know this was set up by some other photographer for a photo, but it doesn't change what it is. Childrens shoes, tiny, simple and covered in cobwebs and the radioactive dust of thirty two years of abandonment.
This was the shot that got me, the one that really made me just sit and think. I'm a father and now a grandfather ffs and I found it quite hard at this moment to actually not blub at the shear waste of it all, all these lives wrecked, possibly even ended early beacuse a set of circumstances that should never have happened.
Did I blub?
