Since its now been burnt and will likely as not be demolished I thought id add my few pictures to the forum. We were mostly there to take pictures for a fashion magazine so my exploring was slightly limited...

lennox castle Travesty

Its a bloody joke. My mate is convinced its deliberate, I.E. more than just wee chavs settin fire to the place, Glasgow has a long history of buildings that just "Went on fire" to quote an old councillor. Oh well then thanks Lennox Castle for being my favourite place to play on my journeys home.

I've put this on the other thread, There was another one last night too. Either the Boys in the big red trucks didn't do their job properly (which I doubt) or someone is desperate to get rid of the place...

It's the same all over the UK and probably overseas too. If a building costs too much to renovate which is normally the case with these old buildings then they burn them so they are unsafe and need to be knocked down and a new development of square boxes can be put in their place. I could name a few places in Aberdeen and surrounding area where this has happened.

Excellent photos, CD. Love the outside shots with those lovely windows and the funky carved stone heads.
Maybe I'm not a serious urbexer... ...but I have no problem seeing the models in the pic as it still documents the building. I think that one day in the future we're all going to be thanked for recording these places as they'll be nothing left of them (I can feel a rant coming on! ). No-one will want to go on holiday or visit anywhere anymore because everywhere will look exactly the same...just new-build housing estates and bloody supermarkets!

lol well i have no problem not being considered a serious urbexer...thanks im glad you liked them, when the magazine comes out i'll maybe post some scans up!

and yeah i get the feelings thats whats going to happen. I dont know why everyone doesnt just feel tremendously sad at the thought of losing these buildings and despising the shoddy new builds that replace them, maybe i was just brought up in old places and i cant imagine wanting to exist in a world of badly constructed toy-town cul de sacs.

I do think there needs to be some major improvements to the way listed buildings are bought and sold and renovated though, there needs to be some incentive for people to do them up. If its so obvious to us whats going on with all of these places it must be obvious to the people higher up too...

its a sad day when places like "the castle" are left to rot but even worse when they are needlessly left to be
attacked by the neds spent a few nights up at the castle when i was younger sitting there in the cars
even the security they had at that time didn't bother there arses with us as they knew we weren't wrecking stuff we used to close the gates behind us and re-lock it

but then security would lock the gates open :icon_evil so its as much there fault now as the neds
but saying that even the hardest would admit the castle was a scary place to be

but was a stunning building

just heard thru a friend on the grapevine that stirling council have appointed 2 demo companies

to take the castle down, good news is the companys are going to be taking it down brick by brick

from what ive heard and historic scotland have stepped in so all may not be lost with the castle
