,,OK,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so I'm a newby and haven't earned my stripes here yet,,,,,but I'd like to say how annoyed I am about some of the posts put on here by people including Krela,,,

I've been looking around at threads that interest me and I'm really peed off by the quantity of little blue boxes that litter the posts

,,,,,if you put a pic on a post, can you make sure that it stays visible.

I can see where your coming from as there are many reports that I have clicked on that no longer have pictures but at the same time, making your views public is not the way to go about it.

I suggest sending Krela a message about your views, a forum admin are approachable and I have always found him helpful.

It's not easy keeping on top of old threads - I know this from another forum (Non UE) that I own and run. I don't mean to sound funny but having a pop at all the members and the admin in public about keeping old pictures up (when there are more recent ones around) is just not fair to anybody.

My views on your post anyway and sorry if I caused you any offence by writing this.

,,,,,,,,,,no offence taken,,,,, I'm not taking a pop at any specific person but pointing out that the disappearance of pics applies to everybody without exception. If pictures by any individual have not yet lost their hosting then i would like them to be aware of what might happen

Its worth remembering that some don't use premium photobucket accounts and bandwidth limits stop the pics showing, also on older (closed) posts you can't edit things so should you move the pics it will break the link :(

I'm not taking a pop at any specific person

This would be true if you didn't post -
people including Krela,,,
on your first post.

It's also not that easy to go back through all of your threads and find out what is still showing and what isn't anymore....especially if you have posted hundreds / thousands of posts!

Just something to think about before posting things like this.

I have an issue with people who use,,,,this to,,,,,,make a ,,,,,,,,,point,,,,,,,

Blimey Jools, you having a bit of a bad hair day or something mate.

Unfortunately it is the case that if you move/ delete pics, or change the directory structure on your hosting site, it breaks the links. Have to say I never do this which is the only way I've found of making sure my pics remain visible. It does also mean that my photobucket account is a right old mess. I keep shadow copies and a full directory so that I can stay reasonably on top of this.

It is the hosting site and how you organise your account that gives rise to this. I've noticed the same thing myself on a number of occasions but I just move on. I suggest you maybe do the same or as others have said PM admin.

I understand your frustration but hey, we're all only human. :)

I'm sorry but that's just the way it goes with forums and the internet in general. Not everything is permanent. It costs money to make things permanent and not everyone has the money to do that, or the know how.

If you wish to pay the £100s and quite possibly £1000s of pounds a month it would cost to host the pictures on this forum itself, which is the only real way to resolve the problem, then feel free, there is nothing I would like better. But I for one do not have the funds to do this, nor would that be fair, and I know that any kind of subscription service wouldn't work and would kill what we already have now as people wouldn't want to pay for it.

I'm not going to go through all 150,000 posts here looking for pictures that no longer exist, I have MUCH better things to do with my time. It's an impossible task no matter how many moderators we might have. You, like everyone else will just have to accept the impermanent nature of the internet. All photo based forums suffer from the same problem. That's just the way it goes.

I would also ask you to remember that I, nor any of the other moderators get paid to do this. We do it of our own free will because we want to, and for the good of the website and it's members, including you. Nothing is perfect, but we do our best with what we have. Frankly, it's a thankless task.

That may sound harsh, but that is the reality. There is nothing personal intended in this post and you don't have to earn your stripes. I'm just explaining the reality and addressing your gripes.

Comforting for me having just checked all my reports that every one of my pics are still showing. Must be doing something right.

Polishes halo and slopes off grinning from ear to ear. :p

Why not, rather than have a rant, simply PM the poster concerned pointing out that pics are missing from a particular thread?

They can then either rectify the situation, or if hosting has been lost delete the thread, or they can ask admin to delete where a thread has been closed.

Often folks simply will not be aware that pics have gone. And in some cases, pics are unavailable on a temporary basis anyway due to server downtime or somesuch.

No point getting all agitated about it.

Just to keep you happy, I've gone back through my threads and deleted most of those where the pics have gone.

I feel all warm and fuzzy now. :D

Point taken,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'll go and stick my head in a bucket of water and scream next time I feel frustrated at missing pics

Sorry jools, I do understand your frustration, and in an ideal world I would make sure it didn't happen.

Unfortunately this isn't an ideal world though.
