This Signal Box stands at the north end of Louth Station in North Lincs. It was built in 1848 by the Great Northern Railway on the East Lincs Mainline between Grimsby and Peterborough. The line was closed in 1970, although during its working life saw extensive traffic from the port of Grimsby into London, mainly Fish out and coal in. The Box itself is of standard G.N Design and is occupied by a local business. Anyway the pics...

Louth was a major Junction on the former E.L.M.L with no less than 3 separate lines diverging just before this Signal Box, the Mablethorpe Loop and The Louth to Bardney Branch part of which will be up soon.:) Now this what a proper disused Signal Box should look like! When its preserved anyway!

What a delightful signal box. Love seeing that the crossing gate is still in situ too...plus the signs on the walls.
Fab find and pics, Blacky. :)

Cheers Foxy. I came accross this one on the way to somewhere else. The Box is near enough the only one left in this part of Lincolnshire.

So it's now a business place? It's nice that they have'nt removed the signage :)

They must have been a family of railway enthusiasts is all I can say! It was lovely touch I must admit!

There's something inherently pleasing about the aesthetics of railway architecture. It's probably the red bricks and the classic designs. Great photos, would love to check this out myself one day.
