first time in an abandoned train station, to say the least there was nothing there really and we (me and over) took made hard work of getting in! by that i mean we found an easy way in after scaling the building! :)

Mayfield station, located on Fairfield street, Manchester, was originally opened for it's primary use as a passenger station on thr 8th of August, 1910, under the ownership of of London & North Western Railway. The intention of the Mayfield addition was offering more control over the increasing rail traffic along the Styal Line.
The station was closed to passengers on the 28th of August, 1960, though it was re-opened on the 6th of July, 1970 after it was altered to a parcel depot for the Royal Mail sorting office located on the opposite side of the main line. This was closed after 16 years in 1986, as a result of Parcelforce changing from rail transport to an entirely road based fleet. The building suffered fire damage in 2005 after fire broke out in the roadside building.

thanks guys, it was not a bad explore! and it was really cool in the station compared to outside!

I've only seen this from a train, but it seems fairly intact.

It's been used for filming Cracker & 1 or 2 other things.

I love all things rail related and this station is just brilliant.

Those buffers look like they are original to the station as well. Love the pose in the last picture too

There were plans in the 1990s to run through trains from the channel tunnel to other but cities, & I wondered if Mayfield might have been reopened to be used as a terminal for this.

Passed this when pulling into Piccadilly on Sat but no time to explore. Did notice alot of buildings around the Deansgate area that are worth an explore....

Prime Suspect 5........this is where in the last film, the bad guy (the street) holds his kidnapped hostage, and gets shot by the armed police.

Brill location; it was the steps that reminded me of the film.
