i have visited the mayfield station platforms many times but this is the first time i have been down below. in the past I've attempted to go down the stairs from the platform but the floor is rotten, i may as well of been walking on soggy cardboard.
luckily on this visit i spotted a way into the underneath. it involved a bit of a climb and tight squeeze but we made it.
it was pitch black so the photos aren't the best. it was just a point and click type of thing. i have not edited the pictures either because i can't afford editing software.
we didn't manage to explore it all despite being there for at least two hours!
looking down the parcel shelf (i think that is what its called)
an old distribution board
an old fuel pump.
this isolator switch has seen better days...
an old fire hose
this place is huge!
ALL DRIVERS REPORT HERE!
the office
asbestos management survey from june 2011.
i found this map of the place on the wall. it says 2011 on it! i wonder if this place was in use until as recently as 2011? the guy who did the extinguishers will know. i will ask him.
in the office there is a door, through the door is yet MORE of the building! this place really is like a tardis!
although the door says MIND THE STEP in big letters i still managed to trip
this part looks very recent.
i would like to edit this picture so everything apart from the caution tape and yellow danger sign is black and white.
but i can't.
at the top of those stairs is a door which leads to a couple of messy rooms. i spoke to a guy who serviced the fire extinguishers there when it was still in use and he said that it seemed like a place for the security guards to sleep or something.
either way it was an utter mess. i thought i took more pictures of this bit than i did. it turns out i spent more time rummaging through drawers and reading books and leaflets then i did clicking photos.
he was a heavy smoker, that's for sure! the florescent tube on the ceiling is bright yellow! as are most of the once white plastic items.
i would not like to bump into somebody here who was wearing this!
sorry for the amount of pictures! i got over 300 on this visit! i'll get them all up on Flickr sometime soon.
thank you for looking at this thread and my pictures! i hope you enjoyed it.
