This may sound like a daft question but is it actually possible to do abit exploring without a car?
Do any of you guys successfully do it by other means?

I so want to go some places but the lack of wheels is driving me insane.

I have never driven a car, as I am mechanically inept, not driving has probably bin one of my better decisions, select somewhere you want to nose around, find out the nearest point that public transport can get you and walk, alternatively you might be lucky enough that your daughter marries someone who enjoys our pastime, worked for me. Stay Safe

Yeah im sure not driving is probably one of my better decisions.
Hah i'll be in for abit of a wait she's only one, perhaps i will just do the daughterly thing and blag my dad!
At least i know others manage it alright using public transport though.

What's stopping you from getting your licence? Hands down, one of the best things I ever did was learn to drive and it opens up worlds, not only with urbex but with jobs, family, holidays, etc too.

I know a couple of people that don't drive and they tend to use buses and trains and walk long distances. One dude has a 125, but it's a pain leaving it somewhere without it getting nicked. Not driving just tends to rule out night explores, camp outs, remote stuff, carrying extra kit (e.g. waders, spare clothes) and the long distance out of county sites.

Honestly though there have been a few occasions when having a bicycle could have been more tactful and stealthy, I'm just the clumsiest person on two wheels! But it's not a bad option to consider for local stuff.

Otherwise buddy up with someone near you that drives on here and chip in on fuel.

Bicycle because you can go down lanes, forest paths easier. A car would probably get damaged or nicked as they are expensive things nowadays. Train first and put the bike on the train and when I get there bike it.

Find someone with a car and use them, like I have done for the last six years:D

Spot on here - One can actually sees more from the saddle of a push bike than the driver's seat of a vehicle. Unless you have a passenger doing the 'roving eyes' bit. looking out for places whilst driving - even on so called quiet back lanes - is rather risky in todays traffic density. You can load a normal bike onto almost any train, but for those people whose public transport option depends on bus travel, I would recommend one of those small wheeled folding items. I know they look somewhat naff, but they travel easily on a bus and will open up the back streets of any town or city.

And don't forget to fork them over some dollar! :D Nothing worse than a tight fisted git tagging along that doesn't chip in during these times of "austerity" :D

Sharing the costs is sensible, not only is it appreciated you get asked along again
