Mumbles lighthouse island.
The islands first lighthouse was coal fired, this was soon updated to oil, and it's most recent upgrade was 1995 when it went solar powered.
The fort on the island was built to protect against the french invasion around 1860, it was used again in WW2 with several gun emplacements and a searchlight battery.
The island is open to the public, but care needs to be taken as the tide comes in fairly quickly and it's easy to get cut off, swimming back is not an option due to a very powerful current between the islands.
