Location
The Far East = Malaysia | Singapore
I haven't seen a proper quality mansion like this in a very long time. Then I shouldn't be surprised
as it is located in one of Malaysia's oldest costal towns, where many big shot merchants
and traders put down their roots early on in Malaysia's history.

The interior of this place has some impressive high quality green and white decorative tilling. You
may see this a lot in Europe, but over here it's a real treat.
The floor is/was also tiled in high quality tiles from Europe, with all kinds of amazing patterns and
colours. Sadly, most of these tiles have since been hacked up and stolen.

I fell in love with this location and so got a bit creative with the exterior pics ;-)

Fascinating mini tower structure projecting off the side of the main building. The top room
was a bathroom for the master bedroom, the ground floor was a small study or lounge area.

The main entrance hall. Note the heart shape openings. Allegedly the villa was named after
the owners wife.

Unknown group photo. Looks to date from the 60's, whether it has anything to do with the
original owner of the villa, who knows.

This was one of the bathrooms.

Old oil lamp, probably a local celeb of the era pictured on the circular tin plate.

Spiral stairs leading up to bedrooms.

Open courtyard area. Another neat feature I have never seen before were glass roof tiles. These
were used along the inner edge of the roof line, letting in more light to the open rectangular
central space.

Kitchen area was totally stripped down. Note the ceiling hung glass panel screen. Very rare to
find a detail like this in Malaysia.

The upstairs was more basic, along the lines of a typical Malay style wooden house.
Probably ran out of money after doing the downstairs ;-)

One of the smaller side bedrooms.

I can see why you fell in love with this, Raz. It's gorgeous.
Shame about the floor tiles, but the remaing decor is amazing.
Love the way that tree has grown up through the roof opening in the courtyard area.
Excellent find...love the pic treatment. :)

Once again, a great find Raz  where is this........Penang  Did you go up the spiral staircase  The structure on the side looks like it may have been a subsequent addition since the style and materials used appear different to the rest of the house. I'm having some trouble with the depth in the 1st pic, the porte cochere doubles as a driveway / garage? Looks like a tight fit though.

This one was in Malacca. If any of you rabble make it over to Malaysia for your hols, make a B line
to either Penang or Malacca if you want explore some top notch prewar locations.

From the looks of things I think the tower bit on the side was in fact part of the original design.

The porte cochere looked just wide enough, I think, to fit a car of the era through.

Didn't try the spiral staircase, luckily the main stairs was still in good condition even though all the
banisters and railings had been nicked.
