Had a quick look round the NCM today and got a few pics of the storage yard. Got loads of stuff there just lying around. Unfortunately there's a big security fence surrounding it all, but got some decent pics from outside. There's also a few from the winding engine boiler room.

Oh I do like this, rusty junk is my thing, that Bedford KM truck is the business. Is this place still open to the public then?

The museum is yep, but these photos were taken through the fence. If you asked nicely they'd probably let you in though.

Quick HDR shot, my first ever in fact lol. Quite pleased with it :)

I've been here twice at night and loadsa time in the day, itsa a top place, lots of dog walkers go on the nature trail at night............caretaker is up near Hope pit way, very quiet on a night on the grounds

Nice pictures I live just up the road from there. Been into the yard before, but without my camera. I think I'll be popping back this weekend.

If you happen to wander into the storage yard "accidentally" during opening hours they'll probably just ask you politely to leave when they spot you. "Is this bit not open to the public? Didn't realise, sorry." ;) CCTV is on at night.

That old steam engine doesn't look beyond repair. It didn't used to be there a few years ago so I think they must have moved it there as a potential exhibit. Definitley the type they used to use for shunting at a lot of the pits when I were a lad. The last time I was down there there were a couple of diesel shunters behind the steamer, I think they were class 07s but I'm no expert. There was also a big tent there was also a big tent next to the tank engine that looked like it might have another engine in it, certainly big enough an a similar size tent at the other en of the yard.
