...in Wales. Many, like this one are redundant but cared for.

Convenient as there is no requirement to get dressed up (or down). A twenty minute break to stretch my legs or an hour away from the madding crowd.

It's in a beautiful setting, if you took your opening shot in winter with snow cover it'd make a lovely Christmas card, those pews don't look too comfortable though. Thanks

Beautiful !! Its obviously looked after but by who, is it the community or is there a fund set aside to maintain it (and others). The first picture makes it look as though it was rail served. All the pics are stunning but my fave would be no 5 - just the right balance of light n shade !! Not too sure about that watermark tho'............. JOKE !!!! :p

There are various organisations and groups of god-botherers which look after redundant churches. The ones I've visited close to your neck of the woods were mainly "Churches Conservation Trust". In practice though it is pretty much the local community as all the organisations bleat about how little money they have.

Just watch it Dad. I've been looking at maps and found some precipitous paths and deep pools for next month ;-)

Pews are interesting things. Early churches didn't generally have them so you had to stand up. Then a few hundred years ago box pews were introduced (you saw some late examples in a post this week and I've posted some posh ones earlier this year), mainly by wealthy families. A problem with box pews was that people got up to 'other' things during the long sermons so open benches became the norm ;-)
