Major demo work has now started in Sheffield City centre. They are starting to knock down the former Grosvenor hotel floor-by-floor now they have cleared it of asbestos. It was last operated by Corus Hotels before its closure in 2009. The hotel and its surrounding buildings will make way for a new retail quarter. The 15-floor Grosvenor opened in 1966, in time for the World Cup football matches in Sheffield.
More precious to the music fraternity of Sheffield is the old Casbah Club. The demo here is now in full swing. Lots of memories here. I used to DJ up-stairs and my band played in the venue downstairs many-a-time.
