How the Harlow site looked in 1966
Nortel acquired the Harlow laboratories, originally Standard Telecommunications Laboratories, in 1991. Nortel continued to use the site for research and development in wireless telecommunication technologies, It was the main centre for Europe, It boasted a state of the art building and labs. Staff at Nortel would be receive benefits such subsidised eateries, a social club, on site sports facilities and a fully equipped gym.

1882 - The first telephone switchboard
1922 - The vacuum repeater tube without which, long distance telephone calls would not have been possible
2001 - The world's first commercial 3G wireless network*
On January 14, 2009, Nortel filed for*protection from creditors*in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, in order to restructure its debt and financial obligations. In June 2009, the company announced it would cease operations and sell off all of its business units. On March 31st 2010, It was announced that the Harlowsite had been sold to Wireless Technology Laboratories Limited, a subsidiary of Ace Technologies Corporation.
