North carr lighthouse boat, Dundee, Scotland, March 09

This is the North Carr Lighthouse boat situated at the Discovery Quay dock in Dundee. It was involved in a fatal sea disaster in 1958 when it got in to trouble in the North Sea and the only available/nearest lifeboat was The Mona at Broughty Ferry. At 0318 hrs, Dec 8th it went to assist the lighthouse boat but capzised in galeforce winds and all 8 crew died.

Those Lightships are really good. We have about 3 in Yarmouth Harbour at the moment as there is a large Trinity House Berth here. They as you know are responsible for Upkeep of Lighthouses ships e.t.c.

nice pics SP, silly question but its obviously maintained, is it still used?

Yeah it's well maintained by a bunch of enthusiasts and is a kind of touristy/Heritage thing.The Frigate unicorn sits nearby which is the main point of interest at these docks but I find this boat a lot more 'intimate'.

Talking of May. The North Carr Lightship replaced this lighthouse from my very first report on DP.
